Democrats Condemn Trump After He States They Should Face Capital Punishment

Lawmakers from the Democratic party expressed outrage after the ex-president alleged a coalition of Democratic congress members of being "turncoats" and declared they should be taken into custody and punished "with execution" following their posting of a disputed video.

The Message That Provoked the Dispute

The recorded message, released on Tuesday, showcases six Democratic lawmakers who formerly acted in military or intelligence roles.

"Like us, you all took an vow to defend and defend this national charter," the officials affirmed in the short video. "And right now, the threats to our democratic foundation don't only come from abroad, but from right here at home. Our laws are clear, you can reject improper directives, you can refuse improper directives, you should reject illegal orders. No one has to execute orders that contravene the statutes or our national charter."

Trump's Angry Reaction

The clip seemed to provoke a heated reaction from the former president.

On later in the week, Trump posted on his preferred platform: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional post, he wrote: "This is really serious, and Dangerous to our Country. Their comments cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent message, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also redistributed a comment that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Officials React

Following Trump's statements on Thursday, House Democratic leader released a combined announcement censuring the statements.

"Political violence has no position in America," they stated. "Congress members who participated in the video all worked our country with great patriotism and excellence. We unequivocally condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and harmful death threats against members of Congress, and appeal to House Republicans to strongly do the same."

The party representatives also said that they had been in touch with security officials "to make certain the safety of these members and their loved ones."

"Donald Trump must immediately take down these radical social media posts and retract his dangerous rhetoric before he gets someone killed," the declaration continued.

Representatives' Strong Response

The representatives who appeared in the video also issued a declaration.

"We serve as ex-military personnel and national security professionals who care for this nation and swore an pledge to defend and uphold the founding document of the United States," they declared. "This commitment lasts a lifetime, and we plan to maintain it. No threat, intimidation, or promotion of aggression will prevent us from that fundamental duty."

"The significant point is that the former president views it punishable by death for us to restate the statutes," they added. "Military personnel should know that we have their protection as they execute their vow to the founding principles and responsibility to follow only lawful orders. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our obligation."

They stated: "The entire nation must come together and condemn the former president's demands for our execution and ideological conflict. This is a moment for moral clarity."

Additional Governmental Responses

The Senate Democratic leader also censured Trump's remarks and shared on online networks: "We must be absolutely clear: the former president is requesting the execution of elected officials."

He added: "This represents an direct THREAT. Each congressional member, all representatives, the entire nation – irrespective of political affiliation – should condemn this without delay and without qualification."

The Conservative official defended Trump's assertion that the Democrats had engaged in "treason", describing the video as "highly unsuitable", stating: "This constitutes very dangerous, you have leading members of Congress instructing soldiers to defy commands, I think that represents historic in US history."

The GOP official also reportedly stated to the press that in what he reviewed of Trump's messages, Trump was "explaining the violation of treason" but that "attorneys have to analyze the language and determine all that."

Executive Branch Response

During a executive branch meeting on that day, when inquired by a media member, "Does the president want to execute congressional representatives?", the White House press secretary replied: "No."

"Let's be clear about what the ex-commander in chief is addressing," the official said. "We see sitting members of the US Congress who conspired to organize a video message to individuals of the national defense, to active duty service members encouraging them to ignore the president's legal commands."

She stated: "The sanctity of our defense system depends on the chain of command, and if that chain of command is compromised, it can result in casualties, it can cause chaos, and precisely what these congressional representatives ... are essentially encouraging."
