Man That Grabbed Ariana Grande on the occasion of Movie Premiere Barred from Singapore
A man from Australia who jumped across a fence and reached for actress Ariana Grande has been expelled and prohibited from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, twenty-six, was given a sentence to over a week in detention for causing a public disturbance and has now been "banned from entering the country again," Singaporean immigration authorities informed local media.
The man shoved through camera crews and approached aggressively the actress and singer, who was attending the Asian premier for the musical adaptation on the thirteenth of November. Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo pulled him back from Grande.
He has a background of interrupting performances and high-profile gatherings, including jumping on stage at the pop star's Australian show in the past June.
The occurrence provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with numerous people saying he of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The pop star has mentioned suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist bombing at her show in the UK city in May 2017 took the lives of over twenty people and injured hundreds.
In the legal process, the court heard he had attempted to intrude on the red carpet event on two occasions, according to local news sources.
He then made a second attempt to jump the barricades. Event security stopped him and held him in place.
Wen later posted recordings thanking Grande for permitting his access and said he was "released."
Authorities took him into custody the subsequent day and brought charges against him with causing a disturbance, to which the man admitted guilt.
The District Judge the judicial official was referenced by media reports as remarking that the man sought attention, noting that he was wrong to believe he would not face any penalties.
Grande has not addressed the incident.
Erivo spoke about the event to a media outlet, remarking that she "simply desired to make sure my co-star was secure."
"I think he didn't intend us harm, but you never know with those things, and I wanted to ensure that she was alright. That was my initial reaction," she said.
