Elena Rybakina secured the largest reward in women's tennis history by beating world number one Sabalenka in straight sets at the tournament.

Rybakina produced a stunning performance to defeat four-times Grand Slam champion Sabalenka in two sets in Saudi Arabia.

Since each competitor came through the event undefeated, the reward on offer was a unprecedented £3.98 million – the biggest payout offering in women's tennis the sport's history.

The reward exceeds the £3.74m the Belarusian won for winning September's New York major, which was the most lucrative Grand Slam in 2025.

"This has been an incredible tournament," stated Rybakina.

"Truly didn't expect this outcome so to win the title was just incredible."

The champion, who was the sixth-ranked player, delivered 16 winning shots during a impressive first-set display.

The 2022 Wimbledon winner saved two break points before winning every point in the sixth game to go a break up and held her serve to secure the opening set.

As the second set progressed, Sabalenka defended two break points at 4-4 to shift the balance in her favour.

But, after fighting back to disrupt Rybakina's rhythm, Sabalenka failed to capitalize by squandering a pair of set points in the following game to tie the second set at five-all.

Sabalenka's failure to force a decider impacted her tiebreak play, with the Kazakh winning all seven points to win the title.

This win, Rybakina's sixth over her rival, means she will move up one place in the rankings to number five in the world rankings.

An emotional the runner-up was seen crying as she met with her team shortly after the final.

"That was not the finest performance from me today but Elena you were certainly the better player," the Belarusian told the crowd.

"You literally overpowered me out of the court. I'm pleased to see you at your peak. Enjoy this beautiful title."
