Spurs Manager Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Real Fans'
The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Spurs and Increase Tension on the Manager
Spurs supporters who booed goalkeeper Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals can't be true Tottenham supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.
Tottenham conceded two goals in the opening six minutes to lose 2-1 to Fulham, marking their 10th top-flight home loss of the year.
But the main talking point was Fulham's next goal when the keeper gave away possession far beyond his area.
The goalkeeper came out to handle a high pass and carried the ball near the sideline.
But, rather than booting it into touch, the Italian spun and attempted to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.
The forward passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who curled a shot into the net from the touchline measured at thirty-six point six metres.
Seconds afterwards when the ball went to the keeper once more, a number of Spurs supporters booed him.
Spurs were jeered off at the interval, with the side 2-0 behind, and once more at the final whistle.
A particular of those jeering sessions really irritated the manager.
"It came to my attention some of our fans apparently jeered the incident and jeered after, which, in my opinion is completely unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented regarding the supporters' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"Those individuals cannot be real Tottenham supporters that do that. Fair enough booing following the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing each other, we are with one another going forward."
Kenny Tete had handed Fulham a fourth-minute advantage before Wilson's goal – with Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second period performance.
Ex- Premier League keeper Joe Hart remarked that the second goal was "totally preventable".
"I do understand the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper continued. "I am aware the part Vicario is playing. He is a excellent team player, he is a real leader in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your actions.
"He was deeply involved in what ended up to be the winning goal."
'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'
Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Vicario After the Game
Italy international Vicario is in his 3rd season with Spurs.
He stated following the game that he had to take the feedback.
"The second goal was a error of mine, I accept accountability for that," he commented.
"My aim was to clear the ball long and I simply hit the ball in a poor manner. It was an more difficult challenge to climb."
He said being booed "comes with the game".
"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he continued. "The team can't be affected by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the right to do what they think.
"It's on us to remain more composed, to focus on our own performance. We are lacking in composure and poise to overturn results. This match is a bad defeat and it's hard to accept."
'It Shocked Me No One Went Back to the Line'
Despite the keeper's error, it was far from an easy score for Wilson to convert.
Actually it was the next most distant Premier League goal of the season – after Adams' 43.3 yard goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which interestingly too came on Saturday.
Wilson said he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an open goal to aim for.
Ten seconds passed between the keeper coming out of his box and the midfielder striking – which was 5 seconds after the clearance.
"I felt like the keeper was away from the box for a long time," Wilson said.
"I was surprised none of the defenders returned to the goal line. When none of them covered the net, my interest sparked a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which gave me a bit of extra opportunity. Then it was all about attempting to make the right connection and get it on target. I had a good sense, as soon as it left my boot, that it was on the right line."
'During in a Poor Run, All Appears to Go Against You'
Booing While We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unacceptable - Frank
While Vicario's mistake led headlines, this was an overall poor performance for Tottenham to extend their home ground struggles.
The match was their 10th home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared team statistic matching 1994 and 2003.
They still have home fixtures against Frank's former club the Bees and title holders the Reds to come prior to the end of the year.
Just a single of those victories have occurred after the manager replaced his predecessor in the summer.
"When you're down 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to climb," said Frank.
"During in a poor run, all aspects appears to go against you as well – the opening was a deflected attempt, the second is a mistake from the keeper.
"This result puts us in a position where we have lost an additional game. Every game has a single story, this game we were defeated in the first six minutes.
"We just need to continue striving. The later period was much better and with luck something we can use to learn."
Spurs have been defeated in four straight home London derbies for the first time in the top division.
And they are recording 9.5 shots and three point two efforts on goal per game in the Premier League – their poorest averages on record in a one campaign (dating back to 2003-04).
Ex- Cottagers midfield player Murphy stated that the manager has to endure the criticism.
"He's got accept the stick," the pundit remarked. "He has taken a high profile job at a major football club with enormous anticipation. There is scrutiny and duty that comes with that.
"Their showings at home have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
