This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
